Driveway Companies Round Rock Homeowners Call Us For
Most driveways we're called about in Round Rock are 1990s and 2000s pours in neighborhoods like Forest Creek or Behrens Ranch, where the slab has settled, cracked across the middle, or lifted at the garage. Others are new homes whose owners want more room for parking.
- Full replacement. Break out, haul off, rebuild the base, pour new.
- Widening. Adding a strip with a proper tie to the old slab and a joint where they meet.
- Approach and apron. The part from the curb to your property line, with the City permit.
- Parking pads. A side pad for a trailer or a third car.
- Exposed aggregate. A textured finish that hides dirt and tire marks.
- Stamped borders. A decorative band along the edges of a plain drive.
Missing from that list on purpose: asphalt paving and sealcoating. We don't do asphalt.
Driveway Pavement Built for Your Side of I-35
Base is what makes a driveway last, and in Round Rock it depends on which side of the highway you live on.
What goes under the driveway
Pick the side of I-35 your property is on.
- Rock high spots get broken out or saw-cut so the slab is the same thickness everywhere.
- A thinner compacted base levels things out. Water has to be routed around the rock, not left on top of it.
- Steep drives get a rougher finish and attention to where the slope changes.
- We dig out the soft topsoil and build up compacted select fill so the slab isn't sitting right on the clay.
- Downspouts and grading are set to keep water from soaking the clay at the edges.
- Rebar on chairs, and joints close enough together that movement shows up at the joints.
Your lot vs. the City's strip
Your side of the property line: no City permit, but built to code.
Curb to property line: right-of-way. Needs a Street Cut & Driveway Approach Permit, is reviewed by Transportation, and is inspected by Construction Inspection Services.
Not your problem: the City doesn't repair private driveways, so the whole slab is the owner's responsibility.
Cobbled Driveway Looks vs. Plain Concrete
Some people want a cobbled or paver look without the upkeep of real pavers. With concrete, you can get that with a stamped border or a full stamped pattern. The other option is exposed aggregate, which has its own texture. Here's how the finishes compare.
Compare two driveway finishes
Choose any two to compare.
| Broom finish | Exposed aggregate | Stamped (cobble or slate) | Broom with stamped border | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Plain, light gray, lined texture | Stone tops show through | Pattern and color, paver look | Plain field, decorative edges |
| Traction when wet | Good | Good | Lower when sealed glossy; add grit | Good in the field |
| Hides stains | Fair | Very good | Good | Fair |
| Heat and sun | Lightest color, stays coolest | Depends on the stone | Color can fade in strong sun | Mostly light |
| Upkeep | Clean it, optional penetrating sealer | Sealer every few years | Reseal and touch up color | Border gets resealed |
Not Sure If It's Replace or Repair? Text a Photo.
Send a picture of the worst crack and one of the whole driveway from the street. (Planning a patio too? See concrete patio contractors.) If it's a single sunken panel, repair might do. If it's broken all over, it's probably time to replace it. We'll tell you which it looks like before we visit.

Sealing
Concrete doesn't need sealing to last, but a penetrating silane or siloxane sealer slows oil stains and water getting in. Wait until the slab has cured, usually about a month. Glossy acrylic sealers make stamped color pop, but they get slick and wear off faster in the Texas sun.
Joints
Control joints give shrinkage cracks a straight place to happen. We draw them on the scope: across the drive at regular spacing, at corners and where the shape changes, and an isolation joint where the drive meets the garage slab and the sidewalk.
How much concrete is your driveway?
Type rough measurements in feet. It does the math; it does not price the job.
720 sq ft at 4 in is about 8.9 cubic yards; with a 10% overage for uneven base and spillage, plan on about 9.8 yd³.
A 2-car drive is often about 18–20 ft wide. This is a volume estimate to help you compare bids, not a quote.
When Patching a Driveway Stops Making Sense
If cracks run across most panels, the slab rocks when you drive on it, or water ponds against the garage, the problem is under the concrete. Patching the surface won't fix the base. Replacing it also lets you correct the slope and widen it at the same time.
One cracked panel isn't a new driveway
If one panel has sunk and the rest are fine, concrete repair or replacing just that panel is the honest answer. We'll write it up that way.

Concrete Driveway Questions From Round Rock Homeowners
What does a new concrete driveway cost in Round Rock?
It depends on size, tear-out, the ground and the finish, so we price from a site visit and put it in writing. On paper, the biggest swings come from removing an old slab, hitting rock on the west side or digging out clay on the east side, and choosing exposed aggregate or stamped instead of broom. That covers "driveway pavement cost" and "cost to have a driveway paved" honestly: anyone quoting a firm number by the square foot over the phone is guessing at those.
How thick should a driveway be?
Four inches is common for cars on a good base. We go thicker, or add steel, where trucks, trailers or an RV will park, and at the apron where the driveway meets the street. The written scope states the thickness so you can compare bids.
Do I need a permit to replace my driveway?
The City of Round Rock treats work on your side of the property line as unpermitted but built to code. The approach in the right-of-way needs a Street Cut & Driveway Approach Permit from the Transportation Department ($50 for a residential approach at the time of writing, subject to change) with a 30-business-day review. We handle that when the curb is involved.
Can I add a second driveway or a circle drive?
The City's driveway rules allow one driveway per single-family lot to one street unless a circular drive is approved, and corner lots take their driveway off the smaller street. Ask early, because that approval decides the layout.
Should I seal a new concrete driveway?
A penetrating sealer helps keep oil and water out and is worth doing once the slab has cured. It isn't required. Film-forming sealers look glossy but can get slippery and need recoating. We'll tell you which one we'd use and when.
How soon can I park on it?
Walk on it after a day or two, and drive on it after about a week in warm weather. Heavy trucks should wait longer. Your scope will give a date.
